FAQs

What can FLIR not see through? ›

Thermal imaging cannot see through trees (or wood), but it can be helpful for spotting people in forested areas where their heat signatures stand out much more than a visible image might.

Do FLIR cameras need calibration? ›

Nevertheless, electronic component aging over time can cause calibration shift. This means that your FLIR camera should be checked periodically for measurement accuracy, and recalibrated as needed. We recommend this be done annually.

Why are thermal cameras Limited 9 fps? ›

A: There are international regulations regarding the transportation and transfer of all thermal cameras. Export laws allow thermal cameras with frame rates less than 9 frames per second (fps) to be moved more freely across borders than 60 or 30 fps cameras.

Can FLIR look through walls? ›

No, it can detect heat from the wall near the surface that there is an issue, but not what is behind the wall. However, if there is something that is causing a difference in temperature in the wall, it will pick it up.

Can thermal imaging see through aluminum foil? ›

Can thermal imaging see through aluminium foil? The answer is NO. Any electrically conductive material will block infrared radiation. The greater the conductivity, the greater the blocking.

Can you see fish with thermal imaging? ›

Unfortunately, thermal imaging will not help you see fish when you are fishing because fish are cold-blooded creatures whose temperature is not constant and depends on the water temperature.
